Nap Time at Apex Day Care Centre

This bright and cheerful blanket was made as part of a donation of 50 kiddie blankets for the Apex Day Care Centre. These blankets will remain at school to be used during nap times. The hard working teachers each received a blanket as well.

This blanket was made with mostly odds and ends of wool from previous projects. I didn't want to do a traditional Granny Square with each round in a different colour. Far too many ends to sew in and time was a bit of a factor.

I did not put too much thought into the colour combinations of the small squares, as the main goal was to try to use up the odds and ends, and to make it as bright and colourful as possible. The only major concern was getting a fair spread of colours and ensuring that I didn't end up with two centres or outside edges in the same colour.

The squares were connected using the join as you go (JAYGO) method. This is only the second time I've used it and it really isn't as complicated as some tutorials and diagrams make it out to be. Before I used it the first time, I nearly made my brain leak out of my ears trying to visualise how it was all going to work.

But it does work, and it is a very quick way to join individual squares. I've only ever used it with a  single border colour like the black used here.

I used 2 extra rounds of black once all the squares were joined, and then added 14 additional rows of colour to bring it up to size. I did not use a fancy border, just two rows of single crochet to edge it.

All the blankets were handed over on 10 May 2017, just in time for the first cold snap of the year.
