Me and my Amigurumi Owl Friend

I made a couple of these amigurumi owls at Christmas time, for my daughter and my niece, to hang off their backpacks. They were largely an experiment because all the amigurumi patterns I found for owls were elaborate and complicated.

I needed a simple shape, so made it up as I went.

BODY:

Use light blue DK and 4mm hook

6sc into a magic ring
Row 1: 2sc into every st (12st)
Row 2: *1sc into first st, 2sc into next st* repeat till end (18 st)
Row 3: *2sc, 2sc into next st* repeat till end (24 st)
Row 4: *3sc, 2sc into next st* repeat till end (30 st)
Row 5: *4sc, 2sc into next st* repeat till end (36 st)
Row 6: *5sc, 2sc into next st* repeat till end (42 st)
Row 7 - 17: sc into every st

In this owl, I crocheted 9 dark blue stitches on rows 11, 13 and 15, but I embroidered the feathers on afterwards in my initial owls - absolutely your choice.

Change to dark blue

Row 18 - 22: sc into every st
Row 23: *5sc, decr* repeat till end (36 st)
Row 24: sc into every st
Row 25: *4sc, decr* repeat till end (30 st)
Row 26: sc into every st, finish off

Stuff firmly and sew up along the top seam

WINGS:

Make 2
Use dark blue DK and 4mm hook

6sc into a magic ring
Row 1: 2sc into every st (12st)
Row 2: *1sc into first st, 2sc into next st* repeat till end (18 st)
Row 3 - 8: sc into every st, finish off

Do not stuff wings, sew to sides where colour changes

Embroider a beak and add tassels to the top points
Sew on buttons for eyes
If you cannot find two-tone buttons like the ones on this owl, use a smaller black button on top of a bigger white button.

For a shorter owl, reduce the number of rows between 7 and 17.

This owl, and his friends, is being donated to Me And My Friend for disadvantaged children.
